The Kpopalypse 2023 Objectification Survey results part 1 of 4 best FEMALE BOOBS and MALE TORSO/ABS in k-pop

It’s that time of the year again – time to objectify your favourite idols yet again in the Kpopalypse Objectification Survey results! Let’s take a look at the winners for 2023 in the all-important category of upper-body objectification!

There are many music styles across the globe, where the focus is squarely on music performance, songwriting skills, artistic craft and making an important personal statement via music endeavour. Then there’s k-pop, where people only pretend to give a fuck. In k-pop, nobody except a small minority actually care about trivialities like “music” or “art”, as far as the companies behind this shit are concerned, it’s all about selling an image of the performers to vapid idiots brain-dead enough to be hoodwinked into thinking music sounds good just because the performers might be attractive, and then on-selling that purchasing power of the brainwashed idol’s fanbase over to advertisers. However just because the idol industry is about manipulation and exploitation doesn’t mean that the songs sometimes aren’t good, and it also doesn’t mean that the performers aren’t attractive. Since these men and women all spent years in training, honing their physical attributes just for you, we should take time out to respectfully appreciate all that hard work and dedication. But that’s boring, so I made this very problematic list instead, I hope the incredibly explicit X-rated content here isn’t too much for you.

As per previous years, voters were asked to choose up to three nominees in each category, best first, and points were allocated as per the following system:

  • Your first choice was weighted 100% higher than your second choice
  • Your second choice was weighted 66% higher than your third choice
  • If you doubled or tripled on choices, only the first choice was counted

Scores were then tallied to give the final results across all categories.

The four results posts are as follows:

Part 1: FEMALE BOOBS and MALE ABS/TORSO – this post!

Part 2: FEMALE and MALE ASSES – coming soon

Part 3: FEMALE and MALE LEGS – coming soon

Part 4: OVERALL MOST ATTRACTIVE FEMALES and MALES – coming soon

Remember folks – that if you object to any of the choices here for any reason, you only have yourselves to blame as these were 100% your votes, not mine.  Kpopalypse does not even cast a vote – these are NOT my picks but YOURS, and this isn’t like a rigged Korean TV show where the “judges” get a say and can overturn fan opinion.  If you want to see a certain result, then it’s your responsibility to spread the surveys to the people who are going to vote for your faves!

On the other hand, if you object to this entire post in general, what are you even doing here?  Don’t you have homework?  Run along now and play with the others, don’t make me tell your parents how to access your browsing history.  Oh, what… you’re staying, so you can pretend you’re “outraged” while looking at the very same pictures and videos of your bias that your own fanbase was already happily sharing with each other?  Well, okay then, read on I guess.

BEST FEMALE BOOBS

#1 – JIHYO – TWICE

1239 points

(2022 position – #1)

The Jihyo domination continues, as the Twice member scores top position for the sixth year in a row! Some have doubted Twice’s popularity in recent years, with the emergence of Itzy and NMIXX on the same label, but it’s clear that when it comes to the female upper body category at least, Twice members and Jihyo in particular remain constantly relevant, at least to Kpopalypse’s surveydoers.

#2 – KARINA – AESPA

918 points

(2022 position – #2)

While not quite popular enough to grab the top spot just yet, aespa’s Karina certainly made some gains this year, nearing closer to Jihyo’s commanding lead. Can Karina harness the power of Kwangya to topple Jihyo in 2024? Perhaps then we’ll know that k-pop’s fourth generation has finally arrived.

#3 – EUNBI – EX-IZ*ONE

613 points

(2022 position – #3)

Kwon Eunbi was already doing well in the results this year, when a late surge of voting brought on by her fanservice-friendly appearance at 2023’s Waterbomb festival gave her a ton of extra votes. It wasn’t enough to change her chart position, but was certainly enough to keep her in the minds of readers as one of k-pop’s “big three”.

#4 – MOMO – TWICE

293 points

(2022 position – #4)

It’s difficult to find good Momo content as web searches for her often turn up her groupmate Jihyo instead. I have no idea why that might be. Momo nevertheless had a good year and managed to also hang onto her placing for 2023.

#5 – SWAN – PURPLE KISS

228 points

(2022 position – #13)

The first big mover in the charts this year, Swan climbed up a bunch of places and has now cemented her reputation as part of k-pop’s upper-body A-list. Very impressive given that these polls are often dominated by veteran performers who don’t put out much content.

#6 – JEEWON – CIGNATURE

146 points

(2022 position – did not chart)

Coming out of nowhere and probably helped by a ton of fancams (you wouldn’t believe how many there are for her – or maybe you would), Jeewon certainly made an impact this year. Given her group are so new, who knows how high she will ascend in future years.

#7 – SEJEONG – EX-GUGUDAN

140 points

(2022 position – did not chart)

I’m not sure what the hell Sejeong did to get so many votes from k-pop fans 57 years after her group Gugudan went the way of the hula hoop and in-line roller skates, but who am I to argue with popular opinion? Clearly something happened to grab everyone’s attention that I wasn’t in the loop on, so here she is anyway. Never let it be said that I bias this poll (because if I did there’s no way I’d let Swan be lower in the polls than Momo).

#8 – GAHYEON – DREAMCATCHER

126 points

(2022 position – #8)

Someone asked me recently if there’s much crossover between my readers and those at Dreamcatcher fan site and occasional news source Asian Junkie, and I think Gahyeon doing so consistently well in the polls indicates an answer in the affirmative. Thanks for reading, Asian Junkie readers! One day let me know how you found my site, because I’d love to know.

#9 – SUNNY – GIRLS’ GENERATION

118 points

(2022 position – #5)

Sunny slips down a few places this year despite Girls Generation actually doing something for a change, probably because about 2375986 groups have debuted since she first burst onto the k-pop scene. Kpopalypse does have a lot of older readers though who remember the days of CD walkmans, pagers, and Girls’ Generation being on top of the pop charts, thanks for continuing to read and tolerating my idiosyncrasies all these years, I think about how lucky I am to have such devoted readers every time I count a Sunny vote.

#10 – SOMI

94 points

(2022 position – #17)

Somi always does well in the polls, and after some time away from picture status she returns to the top ten this year.

#11 – DAYOUNG – WJSN (COSMIC GIRLS)

63 points

(2022 position – #29)

Dayoung moves up a bunch of places in the polls and into picture status for the first time, presumably off the back of her recent live performances. Or maybe it was just all that ‘yupping‘.

#12 – HAYOUNG – APINK

62 points

(2022 position – #9)

Hayoung has been doing well in the polls these last few years, and while she’s slipped a bit there’s still no denying that Apink remains very relevant to Kpopalypse surveydoers. I’m sure a certain end of year list probably helps things along.

#13 – HYOSUNG – EX-SECRET

61 points

(2022 position – #7)

Rounding out our female category this year is Hyosung, showing Kpopalypse readers’ commitment to feminism. Kpopalypse polling has indicated that most readers do like a feminism from time to time, and Hyosung is definitely a feminism. Hyosung hasn’t really done much k-popping lately so I just linked you the same domestic violence awareness video that I linked last year because it seems that some people are still out there beating women and if they find this post and watch this video of hers I feel like they’ll definitely stop doing that sort of thing, which would be nice.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

#14 – Chowon – Lightsum

#42 – Jihan – Weeekly

#43 – Youha

#44 – Wendy – Red Velvet

Of course an objectification survey result post is not complete without a hefty serving of hunky man-meat for you to drool over – let’s now take a look at the male upper-body category for 2023!

*

BEST MALE ABS/TORSO

#1 – WONHO

802 points

(2022 position – #1)

While reader favourite Wonho still has a commanding lead, he now only has three times as many votes as his nearest rival (the ratio was five last year). I think that the competition are seeing his success and realising that they need to stop up their objectification game. They have a long way to catch up however, but rest assured that Kpopalypse will be ready to report on all developments!

#2 – MINHYUK/HUTA – BTOB

257 points

(2022 position – #6)

Kpopalypse surveydoers sure noticed Minhyuk at Waterbomb festival and this afforded him a late boost in the polls which helped him pass many fan favourites and take him into second position. The impact of Waterbomb on voting hasn’t been seen so heavily in previous years, future objectification surveys will be delayed a month in order to factor in this event’s increasing importance!

#3 – B.M – KARD

199 points

(2022 position – #8)

People have been noticing BM a bit more this year thanks to KARD actually doing stuff, and he’s always been pretty good about fanservice, so it’s only natural that he’s climbed some places.

#4 – KAI – EXO

179 points

(2022 position – #2)

Kai struggled a bit this year compared to previously, which is surprising because he’s had a recent fanservice-friendly solo comeback, and that type of activity usually translates to chart positions in these polls. If only EXO fans spent as much time voting for Kai as they did complaining about negative reviews of EXO songs in Kpopalypse roundup, maybe their fave wouldn’t have lost his spot.

#5 – BANG CHAN – STRAY KIDS

166 points

(2022 position – #3)

Bang Chan has been a popular pick for the last few years but also also been knocked back a couple places. Apparently he’s a bit shy about his body so make sure you send him some encouraging words so he has the confidence to take on that important Waterbomb festival shirtless next year.

#6 – SHINDONG – SUPER JUNIOR

152 points

(2022 position – #4)

Do you know how hard it is to find a Shindong abs picture that I haven’t already used? Impossible, I tell you. Please, stop voting for this guy, he hasn’t earned his spot here, he never shows any skin, incredibly poor at fanservice, no naked sweaty strip-offs with his Super Junior groupmates, I mean come on, Siwon is right there… just a piss-poor attitude all round to be honest. He needs to reflect and return with better Red Velvet cosplay. Oh, who am I kidding, you’re going to all keep voting for him anyway…

#7 – MINGYU – SEVENTEEN

120 points

(2022 position – #16)

Mingyu was a big mover in the made upper body category this year, jumping up many spots and straight into the top ten. I must have missed the event that made this happen but I’m sure my readers will let me know in the comments below!

#8 – MINHO – SHINEE

87 points

(2022 position – #5)

SHINee have been quite active latey, but Minho has continued on his recent path of modesty, it’s really hard to find any ab footage of him at all except that one time he ripped his shirt off in 2015. I guess he’s just a shy boy. That’s okay, I understand, I hope being on this list doesn’t traumatise him too much.

#9 – JUNGKOOK – BTS

76 points

(2022 position – #11)

BTS might be the Nickelback of k-pop but Chad Kroeger never had abs like this. I guess he’ll be off to the military soon if not already to deflect North Korean bullets with his man-flesh, let’s wish him well.

#10 – JAEHYUN – NCT

75 points

(2022 position – #14)

While a lot of NCT appreciation goes on my my comments sections, there’s surprisingly less of it in the actual survey voting. I guess it’s because NCT has so many members spread across so many different groups, so the total votes get divided among more individuals. Maybe they need to form together into one giant ab to get to #1.

#11 – SAN – ATEEZ

72 points

(2022 position – #22)

San is someone who’s new to picture status, and I’m not sure what was holding up votes last time, because all of his various ab flashing seems to be from two years ago. I’m sure someone can tell me why he’s surged up in the voting, but he certainly seems to be the least ‘teasing’ of the Ateez members.

#12 – JOHNNY – NCT

65 points

(2022 position – #7)

Johnny is a popular NCT choice who has been kicking around the polls for a while now, and with such good quality fanservice it’s easy to see why. We all like to see a bit of effort, Shindong take note tsk tsk.

#13 – TAECYEON – 2PM

56 points

(2022 position – #10)

Finishing up our male category is Taecyeon, who kind of doesn’t do much these days, and it’s really hard to find abs pics of him that aren’t from that one commercial and Men’s Health shoot he did over a decade ago. I guess he must’ve left quite an impression to still be beating out the newcomers.
